It is frightening to realise it is almost 30 years since I qualified as a vet in 1981! Even then I realised I wanted to specialise in pets and have been happily doing that ever since. I still love both the science and the ‘art’ of veterinary medicine and especially challenging cases. The science of course is always progressing and the level of knowledge and care possible today is much more than it was. The ‘art’ is largely a result of intuition gained by experience and of course can not be taught very easily.

I believe in constantly trying to evolve our practice both in our veterinary skills and care as well as customer service and take pride in all our staff’s efforts in this. We are also trying to be at the forefront of progressing preventive care as of course, where possible, it’s better to stay healthy than get fixed after being sick!

Being a vet has also given me wonderful opportunities to work in different countries and also, now I am settled, to take some sabbatical times to indulge my other passions of travel and nature, especially the rich life of tropical rainforests.

I have been caring for all furry creatures big and small for the last six years.  I treat my profession as a vocation which I feel privileged to fulfil, in fact I would not like to do any other job!

My professional motto is: The day you stop caring is the day you should stop being a vet.

I love all animals as well as long country walks either on foot or on horseback, travelling around the world, gardening and cooking.

I am totally devoted to my two cats Valdek and Ushata.

Ellie Clare
Registered Veterinary Nurse

Hi I’m Ellie and I joined the team here at Eureka Veterinary Centre in July 2009. I’ve been working as a Veterinary Nurse since February 2004 and qualified April 2009 after completing the 2 year vocational course at Hadlow College which I thoroughly enjoyed.

I previously worked in a busy practice in Maidstone with a large team of nurses and vets where I learned a lot and was able to develop my skills and knowledge. After 4 or so years I accepted the role of ‘sole charge’ nurse at a branch of the same practice where I gained new experiences and established good relationships with clients and their pets as I was able to follow each case personally. This is one element of working as a sole nurse that I look forward to maintaining here in Ashford.

I have 2 Labradors, Olly, who I’ve had since he was a pup and Tara, who I ‘temporarily’ took home when she was 10 months old as her previous owner wanted her put to sleep because of her joint problems. They both have hip dysplasia and Tara also has elbow dysplasia but they’re coping very well on a special diet and trust me it doesn’t stop them! I also have a young cat, Paddy, who originally came in to us at the surgery as a stray kitten.

If you have any queries, whether they’re big or small please don’t hesitate to contact me at the surgery. I’m always happy to help and enjoy sharing my knowledge on all aspects of preventative pet health care.

Hi my name is Sophie Taylor; I have been working at Eureka Veterinary Centre since July 2009. I am a trainee Nurse; I absolutely love my job and enjoy learning something new each day. Before I started working at Eureka Veterinary Centre I completed a National Diploma in Animal Management at Canterbury College. During my time there I found Vet Nursing to be the subject I was most passionate about therefore deciding my future career.

I have 2 pets of my own, Jack Russell Cross called Buster and a pet rat called Rita.
